‘On the mend’ is a useful phrase which you can use as a healthcare professional.
It is also something patients may say to you, so it’s good to be familiar with it for that reason too e.g.
How long do you think it will be before I’m on the mend?
Mend as a verb means to fix something which is broken. Some healthcare professionals might assume it is primarily used to describe the healing of broken bones. The two examples above show it can also be used more widely to describe the improvement of a patient’s ‘broken’ health.
