OET, the English language test for healthcare professionals recognised by Australian Institute of Medical Scientists.

The Occupational English Test (OET) is now recognised by the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS), giving candidates applying for Skills Assessment for migration and the AIMS Professional or Membership examination an opportunity to improve their career prospects.

The following are the key objectives of AIMS.

  • To advance the profession of medical science in the provision of the highest quality laboratory services;
  • To promote, support, further and advance the character, status and the common interests of medical scientists;
  • To promote, advance and develop scientific knowledge by means of lectures, demonstrations, discussions, debates in all branches of science;
  • To promote and further the cause and interests of science, scientific culture and scientific research.

A comprehensive knowledge of English is essential to the practice of medical laboratory science in Australia.

OET is an international English language test that assesses the language skills of healthcare professionals seeking to register and practice in an English-speaking environment. OET is recognised by Australian and New Zealand Immigration for visa purposes, as well as healthcare regulators in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Dubai and Namibia, for registration purposes. OET is also accepted by healthcare educators for admission and exit assessment of English language skills.

OET CEO, Sujata Stead, says: “We commend the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists for their commitment to the healthcare sector in Australia”.

“Unlike other English tests, OET test materials are based on real healthcare scenarios so educators and employers can be confident that successful candidates have the level of English communication skills required for safe and high-quality patient care,” she concluded.
