OET now recognised in the Philippines

OET, the world’s only international English language test specifically for healthcare professionals, has achieved its first recognition in the Philippines. The new recognition is by Ateneo De Davao University’s (AdDU) School of Nursing, which aims to use OET to attract international students and as a means to aligning the skills of local nurses with international standards to improve the provision of care in the Philippines.

In addition, improving the English language communication skills of domestic nurses will assist in raising the profile of the Philippines as a medical tourism destination.

AdDU’s Dean of the School of Nursing, Patria V. Manalaysay, said:

“The Occupational English Test is here in Davao City and will be based in the Ateneo de Davao University. OET is internationally recognized and is ideal for nurses and healthcare professionals because the test is so constructed to include nursing and healthcare-related scenarios. Choosing and passing OET is like proving to the world that you have the English proficiency for any local or foreign work environment. Success is never far away with OET!”

In the Statement of Recognition, AdDU’s president Rev. Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J. wrote:

“The Ateneao de Davao University expresses its recognition in the spirit of strategic internationalization employed by the School of Nursing… [which] intends to share and showcase its quality technical mentorship and values-based formation to aspiring professionals who are the future of the world’s medical and healthcare sectors.”

Sujata Stead, CEO of OET, commented:

“We are very excited to have achieved our first OET acceptance in the Philippines and congratulate AdDU on taking this bold step. They have demonstrated immense vision by recognising the value of accepting OET for domestic use and as a tool for strategic internationalisation. We look forward to working with AdDU into the future.”

AdDU will accept OET results achieved from September 2020. The required grades are C+ in all sub-tests.
