OET and NEAS to collaborate on English language teaching quality assurance.

The Occupational English Test (OET), the English language test for healthcare professionals, and the National ELT (English Language Teaching) Accreditation Scheme (NEAS Australia) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on assuring the high quality of those who prepare students to sit OET.

The MOU was signed in Sydney yesterday by OET CEO Sujata Stead and NEAS Chief Executive Patrick Pheasant.

The MOU acknowledges that “interaction between the organisations is desired and supports the commitment to ongoing Quality Assurance for OET Premium and Non-premium Preparation Providers”.

The ongoing interaction is to include the following:

  • the opportunity for OET Preparation Providers to apply for NEAS quality endorsement with the benefit of a partner saving
  • the establishment of processes and policies with regards to offering NEAS endorsement to OET Preparation Providers
  • regular consultation and information sharing
  • NEAS support to OET in asessing individual teacher qualifications.

“We are delighted to be working with NEAS to offer this additional service to our existing and future OET Preparation Providers. NEAS quality endorsement is robust and rigorous and will serve as a mark of high quality to OET candidates. We are confident that a substantial number of our current Preparation Providers will wish to avail themselves of this new opportunity,” said Stead.

Pheasant added: “This agreement will allow those providers that offer OET test preparation programs to have the quality of their programs acknowledged and showcased. NEAS Quality Endorsement helps providers identify their best practices and develop a culture of quality. NEAS is delighted to be working with OET to draw attention to the great programs their partners are delivering.”

The MOU comes into effect immediately and OET will be communicating shortly with Preparation Providers to inform them of the details and how they can avail themselves of this new opportunity.
