Use quotation marks to report the patient’s words.

Sometimes, it can be useful to directly quote the patient’s words or expressions in a formal letter. Rather than trying to paraphrase the words, it can be clearest to simply use the patient’s own words to convey their meaning.

To show the word or phrase is a quote, they should be within quotation marks.

Mrs Holbrook stated that losing weight was “not of interest at the moment”.
