Take out is a common phrasal verb used with parts of the body including tonsils, teeth and the appendix.


It’s great to use when speaking to patients as it’s a phrase they will be familiar with.

In a formal letter, it would be more appropriate to use ‘remove’:

Removing Sam’s tonsils was recommended as the best course of action.
